Standing at the confluence of two large ravines, Théus is a charming village which oscillates between altitudes of 635 to some 1733 m! It is home to the famous Salle de Bal des Demoiselles Coiffées.
It has developed around vineyards, fruit and vegetable farms.
The deepest of the ravines, the Vallauria ravine, is known for housing a particular geological feature, the ballroom of the "Demoiselles Coiffées", which under the effect of erosion reveals rocks pointing towards their summit, topped by large boulders. Dominating the village, the preserved remains of the old castle surround the communal cemetery, while the parish church of Saint-Nicolas in the village is in very good condition, as is the chapel of Saint-Pierre above Théus.
The Mont Colombis, whose summit culminates at 1733 metres, offers one of the most remarkable panoramas of the Serre-Ponçon lake, accessible to long-distance hikers or by a small tarmac road where vigilance is necessary.
Because of its enclosed situation, Théus leads to rest and relaxation. An agricultural land with a rich natural and historical heritage, Théus is an atypical village, between the Alps and Provence.
