Presentation

Peace and quiet in the countryside, on the plain, just a stone's throw from La Bâtie-Neuve and the main road.

Departure and recommended parking: car park at the old railway station

1. On leaving the car park, turn left towards Gap/Briançon on the tarmac road. Follow the signs for Briançon under the bridge over the main road, then 100 metres further on, fork left and pass under the railway line to find the track. Take the track on the right and walk along the railway line towards Le Moulin. The Charance ridge and Napoleon's hat gradually come into view. At a crossroads, turn left at the red-roofed house and cross the Luye to reach "Le Moulin"
2. At Le Moulin, follow the path up to the left, which probably follows the "Via Cottia per alpem", an ancient Roman road. Continue along the hedges, across the fields. Continue through undergrowth as far as Pré Bellot
3. From here, head towards La Bâtie-Neuve, along the track on the left. Take time to admire the region's main peaks in turn: Piolit (2,464 m), Aiguilles de Chabrières (2,403 m) and Grand Morgon (2,324 m). Once you reach the ferme des Paris, continue straight ahead, following the signs for La Bâtie-Neuve
4. Join the main road. Do not cross it, but continue straight on for 200 metres towards Tallard. Leave the tarmac road to take a track that runs due east on the left, alongside a hedge. Follow this track across the fields until you cross the main road via the tunnel. Follow the road in the opposite direction for 400 metres to cross the railway line. Finally, enter the village of La Bâtie-Neuve and return to the starting point, on the left opposite the school.
