Presentation
Divided into three hamlets which are the main town, Chaussenoire, les Santons and a few other places, Avançon is a rural commune perched on its promontory at the entrance to the Avance valley.
The plain of Avançon, which is very agricultural, is crossed by the departmental road 942, which provides access to the A51 motorway in the direction of Sisteron to the south-west, and Briançon to the north-east by the national road 94. Surrounded by the communes of Montgardin, Saint-Étienne-Le-Laus and La Bâtie-Neuve, Avançon is located 9 km south-east of Gap. The village has an important built heritage: the church of Saint Gervais, built in 1563, the chapel of Notre Dame de Pitié, and the former school, which has been converted into a multi-purpose room and meeting room.
Bordered by the Saint-Pancrace stream and the Avance river, the village, due to its rurality, is ideal for those seeking to disconnect. The two Avançon festivals, one in June on Saint-Gervais Day (the same name as the village church) in the Chef-lieu and the other at Santons at the end of August, set the pace for the summer period.
