Presentation
Situated 23 kms from Gap, the village of Espinasses, with its ancient low houses on the hillside, is at the crossroads of the Durance, Ubaye and Blanche valleys.
At the foot of the Serre-Ponçon dam, Espinasses is a village that has kept its rural picturesqueness (large agricultural plain, hiking trails, vast forests, ...) and offers all the advantages of an urban town (local shops, health professionals, childcare facilities, numerous cultural and sports activities for associations, ...).
The commune is crossed by the departmental road 900b, on the axis linking Sisteron and Gap to Barcelonnette.
From the bottom of the Durance river (637 metres above sea level) to the heights of Mont Colombis (1,730 metres), the village is the starting point of several hikes offering beautiful panoramic views over the Serre-Ponçon lake. The religious heritage of Espinasses is distinguished by the gothic style church of Sainte Brigitte dating from the 13th century or by the chapels of the hamlets of Vière and La Faure.
