Compensation lake of Espinasses

Presentation

It is a magnificent place for walks and fishing: the compensation basin. Straddling the communes of Espinasses and Rousset, it is an idyllic setting for many fishermen and enthusiasts.

From 600 m downstream, at the right of the EDF fence located on the right bank, at the foot of the Serre-Ponçon dam, in the commune of Rousset
This water reservoir allows the peak flows of the hydraulic power station to be spread out. It acts as a funnel for the Durance canal carrying the water to the Saulce plant. Four gates block the historic bed of the Durance. A hole in one of them allows the wild river to be fed.
It is a magnificent body of water that changes its appearance with the seasons and the time of day. In addition to its aquatic resources (brown trout, rainbow trout, pike, whitefish, etc.), which make it a small paradise for fishermen, its shady banks offer a magnificent setting for picnics.
A bird's paradise in winter, it becomes the domain of fishermen and tourists from spring onwards.

- Attractive fishing course of the Compensation Lake:
This course, which is easy to access, is managed in a strictly halieutic interest. The fishing associations of the Hautes-Alpes organise throughout the year the release of adult trout, which can easily be caught using fish from our fish farm. Manager: La Gaule Gapençaise.
