Gravel routes near Gap
The Avance valleys offer an ideal playground for gravel enthusiasts of all levels. From little-traveled country roads to shady forest tracks and breathtaking views over Lac de Serre-Ponçon, there's no shortage of itineraries to choose from.
Whether you're looking to make the most of a day's outing or a weekend's touring, there's sure to be a route to suit you. You can reach our valleys by public transport from Gap station, or by bike in 30 minutes. You've found your microadventure.
In just a few pedal strokes, you'll pass through countryside and vineyards, then over mountainous terrain to the shores of the lake.
Autumn walks and hikes in blazing colors
In autumn, the forests of Serre-Ponçon Vallées undergo a metamorphosis: larch trees turn golden, hardwoods orange and fiery red. This is undoubtedly the most beautiful season for a nature outing. The trails are quiet, the peaks still accessible before the snow arrives, and the landscapes offer striking contrasts between lake and mountains.
Some autumn hiking ideas in the Serre Ponçon valleys:
- The summit of Mont Colombis: an exceptional panorama of the Serre-Ponçon lake and mountain pastures bathed in the golden colors of the larches. And for those who want to save energy, it's possible to climb part of the way by car.
- The Demoiselles Coiffées de Théus ballroom: the Vallauria valley is at its most colorful in autumn. In this magical setting, unique geological formations blend with the magic of seasonal landscapes.
- The Serre l'Eyglier lookout: an unobstructed view of the Avance valley. If you're feeling more sporty, you can extend the experience with a climb to Piolit, rewarded by a breathtaking panorama.
- Les crêtes du Laus: above the sanctuary, a panoramic hike through the forest. For a family outing, opt for the tour de Pindeau, a peaceful stroll in the heart of the countryside.
- The crête de la Colle from Piégut: a real undiscovered gem. The panorama is splendid and the village of Venterol, perched below, is well worth a visit.
And for a fun family activity, head for the Sapet mystery walk. This original hike turns walking into a real treasure hunt, with children solving clues while discovering the beauty of the autumn forest.

With over 300 days of sunshine a year, rain is rare in the Hautes-Alpes... but it's always good to have a few ideas on hand! Whether you're looking for shelter from a downpour or simply want to discover the local heritage, here are a few museums and visits not to be missed this autumn.
Apiland Nature
Perfect for a family outing, Apiland invites young and old to explore biodiversity and the fascinating world of bees. The guided tour (booking recommended) is as much fun as it is educational. Good news: the site is open this autumn, even during the All Saints' Day vacations.
The Winegrower's Museum
Ideal for friends or company seminars, this museum immerses you in the history of Hautes-Alpes wine. Visits are possible out of season for groups (minimum 8 people). A tasting accompanies the discovery, and to extend the experience, head to the wineries to meet the producers and buy wine direct.
Le Muséoscope du Lac
Until October 15, the Muséoscope du Lac retraces the fabulous story of the construction of the dam and the birth of the Serre-Ponçon lake. A fascinating visit that sheds light on the history and identity of an entire region.
Retro Serre Ponçon
A guided tour outside the walls! Fleuranne, our tour guide, knows all about our valleys. In her 60s van, she'll take you on a guided tour of our sheltered area (dam, coiffed damsels, vineyards) (For 2025, available until mid-October, she's taking some time off this year for the All Saints' holiday)

During the All Saints' Day vacations, Serre-Ponçon Vallées is offering a program of free events entitled Les Rendez-vous en Terres Connues. On the menu for autumn 2025:
