Presentation
Paragliding and hang gliding site with FFVL approval. Very beautiful take-off site in the Sapet forest with generous thermal conditions; flight over the crests of the Aiguilles de Chabrières and panorama of the Serre-Ponçon lake. Level 2-3.
ATTENTION PISTE FORESTIERE DU SAPET INNACCESSIBLE DUE TO WORKS FROM 14 APRIL 2025 TO 30 JUNE 2025
How to get to take-off - Alt. 1 600 m
Coming from Gap, take the N.94 towards Embrun. At La Bâtie-Neuve, turn left onto the D.214. When you reach "les Borels", where there is a car park opposite a bistro (very useful for organising shuttle buses), turn right onto the D.614 for about 700m, then turn left onto a small road towards "les Clots". This road leads to the Sapet forest track, which is accessible by car. Follow this for around 4km. You'll eventually see the hang-gliding jump and paragliding launch on your left. As the forest road widens at the take-off point, it is possible to park several vehicles and make a U-turn without any problem.
How to get to the landing - Alt. 800 m
The official landing is between La Bâtie-Neuve and Chorges. Approximately 2km after leaving La Bâtie, in the direction of Chorges, turn right onto the D942 in the direction of Tallard. The landing is on your left, 1km from the junction at a place called "Michelon". This landing is not as fine as the take-off. You may therefore need to use an emergency landing, but please note that apart from the Michelon landing, there is no official landing strip. However, if the fields are mown, you can land after Les Borels or at the western exit of "Les Carles" on the edge of the D614 (see map below).
The site's advantages:
- Level 2-3 for very autonomous pilots
- 800 m ascent
- Site orientation: EAST / SOUTH / SOUTH-WEST
- Easy access to the take-off area.
- The site's position, which allows you to climb the Piolit (2464m) and fly over the crests of the Aiguilles de Chabrières in good thermal conditions. From up there, the view of the Serre-Ponçon lake is splendid.
- The grandeur of the official landing.
- Dangerous site with a northerly trend. Be careful when the breeze manages to counter the weather wind.
Complementary welcome: beware of the W-N-W wind straightened by the thermal at take-off but dangerous in flight. Finesse 10.
